HSE Senior Specialist

Position Summary: Servers as a senior consultant for the Corporate/Regional HSE Group providing consultation and governance support to the business. Should be involved in all aspects of the HSE function and be able to work on their own and lead in the development, implementation and monitoring of programs.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Develop training plans and programs
  • Prepare training materials and deliver training courses
  • Provide technical expertise on various HSE programs for the business.
  • Understand the components of an HSE Management System and assist in its implementation
  • Respond to customer requests and manage customer focus groups
  • Implement and maintain company HSE documents adhering to local, state and federal environmental, health and safety regulations. (national and international).
  • Works with internal and external customers to ensure compliance with HSE guidelines, policies and regulations.
  • Leads the development of audit programs and leads audits
  • Lead and develop mentoring programs
  • Conduct risk assessments (HAZOP / HAZID)
  • Lead incident investigations
  • Compile and analyze HSE statistics, incident reports and issue monthly reports.
  • Develop corrective actions to address negative trends.
  • Produce leading indicators and statistical data

Required Skills or Tools:

  • Possess good written and oral communication skills
  • Possess strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to read and interpret policies, programs and regulations
  • Must be able to work in a fast paced, multi-tasking environment
  • Relies on minimal instructions and pre-established guidelines and timetables to perform the functions of the job
  • Proficient presentation skills
  • Ability to coordinate the activities of others in HSE
  • Ability to work under pressure and with time constraints
  • Proficient knowledge of IMPACT or similar software
  • Proficient use of MS Office suite
  • Good project management skills
  • Good analytical skills

Preferred Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree from four-year College or University (preferred).
  • 6 to 7 years of HSE experience with minimum of 3 years in a leadership/coordination role (required).
  • 7+ years of experience with 3 or more years on a leadership/coordination role (required).
  • CSP / NEBOSH (preferred).

HSE Regional Coordinator

Reports to: Manager, Safety

Position Summary: Senior level position responsible for planning, developing, and coordinating safety/environmental compliance and programs for manufacturing and field operations in assigned region.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local laws/regulations/rules
  • Inspects facilities, machinery, equipment, and personnel practices
  • Evaluates Emergency Action Program
  • Audits safety systems, policies, and procedures
  • Audits Vehicle Administration program
  • Audits HSE inspections
  • Conducts HSE training for employees and management
  • Conducts Cat 4 and Cat 5 incident investigations and provides recommendations
  • Documents Cat 4 and Cat 5 incident data and files reports
  • Oversees Loss Prevention Team meetings and progress
  • Reviews incidents - approves documentation and corrective actions
  • Follows up with incident corrective actions
  • Analyzes HSE incident information in the HSE database
  • Reviews and approves safety award tracking for region
  • Interprets safety, environmental, DOT, and workers compensation regulations
  • Develops safety systems, policies, and procedures
  • Represents organization with government agencies, attorneys, and clients and consultants
  • Directs others regarding HSE
  • Willingness to travel up to 50% of time, 25% of time out of the area
  • On call 24/365

Required Skills or Tools:

  • Proficient presentation skills
  • Ability to document
  • Proficient in MS Word, MS Excel, Outlook, keyboarding, MS PowerPoint, networking, and Oracle
  • Becoming proficient in HSE databases
  • Ability to read and interpret policies, programs and regulations
  • Ability to coordinate meetings and training
  • Ability to coordinate others in HSE
  • Ability to communicate to management on HSE issues
  • Ability to resolve HSE issues with management
  • Ability to operate a company vehicle
  • Ability to direct Local HSE coordinators
  • Ability to efficiently train 90% of HSE programs and policies
  • Ability to train HSE coordinators to provide training
  • Qualified to train hazardous gas safety, confine space entry, and driving safety

Preferred Education/Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Associate's degree in a safety related field preferred
  • 5 years experience in HSE related field
  • 1 year management experience preferred
  • 5 years field services experience preferred
  • 2 years manufacturing experience preferred
  • 2 years Company experience preferred

Physical Strain:

  • Must be able to work under pressure
  • Must be able to work with the team in developing improved work processes for the department
  • Travel as needed throughout assigned area
  • Travel out of area for investigations, meetings, and/or training
  • Lift 50 lbs.
  • Climb ladders and stairs
  • Inspect all associated equipment
  • Wear all potential personal protection equipment
  • Escape in the event of an emergency
  • Operate a company vehicle
